The Southern Winds is a concert band for older adults. Most band members were active in their school music groups and in some cases, military bands, but put away their instruments for a long time—there are, however, a few who have always been musically active. You can see a list of the members here.
We are a community band of amateur musicians at least forty-five years old who play for fun. Subject to instrumental balance, new members are always welcome and no audition is necessary, Simply contact our Membership Director, Joan Merchlinsky. The Band rehearses each Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church Woodstock, 11905 Highway 92, Woodstock, GA
The director is Jim Moody, a veteran musician well-known in the Roswell area. Jim was Band and Orchestra Director at Roswell High School for more than twenty-five years, and in 1998 was honored by being named Georgia Music Educator Of The Year by the Georgia Music Educators Association.
The band performs at a variety of venues - churches, retirement homes, etc. If you would be interested in having the Band play for your group, contact Marjorie Fischer.
